Re: Comm. No. 418/Bill No. 185
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 185, reports as follows:
Bill No. 185, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication No. 418,
dated November 19, 2003, amends Ordinance No. 03-90, as amended, the Capital Budget,
ending June 30, 2004, by adding the following project:
POLICE:
Microwave Relocation & System 1 10-299-5299.47 $700,000
Renovation -Private
Funds for these projects shall be provided from private contributions.
Funds will be used for the project's upgrades to allow co-locators to the microwave system. The
co-locators will reimburse the County for costs incurred to add them to the system.
The Hawaii County Police Department's Microwave Relocation and System Renovation project
was initiated to replace the existing microwave communications system used by a variety of
public safety agencies. The project involves the analysis of the current facilities, agreements
with co-locators, acquisition of tower sites. tower modification and new tower construction,
equipment purchase and installation, and ultimately the transition to the new equipment.
Some members of Your Committee requested an amended financial impact statement from
Police Department. Information is needed prior to the next Council meeting.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 185 and
recommends it pass first reading.
