Your Committee on Human Services and Economic Development, to which was referred
Resolution No. 142-04, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 142-04, transmitted by Council Chair James Y. Arakaki via Communication
No. 464. dated January 12, 2004, recognizes March 2004 as National Women's History Month.
The theme of this year's National Women's History Month is "Real Women".
The Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women is sponsoring a "Real Women" creative
writing competition of students island wide in grades 5 through 12. The essay contest increases
awareness of the many different ways that women made history in Hawaii and fosters pride in the
outstanding accomplishment of women in Hawai' i.
Your Committee on Human Services and Economic Development is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Resolution No. 142-04 and recommends its adoption.
