Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 533, reports as follows:
Communication No. 533, dated February 20, 2004, is from Mayor Harry Kim submitting the
appointment of Mr. Thomas Goya to serve on the County of I tawai'i Water Board.
According to Communication No. 533. Mr. Goya is a life-long resident of Hawaii and retired
from the Hawaii Electric Light Company. He is active in several community groups including
the .Iapanese Community Association and the }iawai'i Island Economic Development Board's
Science and Technology Committee. Mr. Goya is also not affiliated with any political party. If
confirmed, he will till the Council District 2 vacancy and serve until December 31.2008.
At today's meeting, several members commended Mr. Goya's willingness to serve, and spoke in
favor of his nomination. Mr. Goya explained that he has had along-standing interest in water
issues and the County Water Board.
Your Committee on Planning recommends the approval of the appointment of Mr. Thomas Goya
to the liawai'i County Water Board for a term ending December 31, 2008.
