Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 531, reports as follows:
Communication No. 531, dated February 20, 2004, is from Mayor Harry Kim submitting the
appointment of Mr. Arnold T. Okamura to serve on the County of Hawaii Environmental
Management Commission.
According to Communication No. 531, Mr. Okamura is a life-long resident of Hawaii and retired
from the U.S. Geological Survey, Department of the Interior, as the supervisory geologist for the
Hawaii Volcano Observatory. Mr. Okamura is not aftiliated with any political party. If
confirmed, he will fill the Council District 4 vacancy and serve until December 31, 2008.
At today's meeting, several members commended Mr. Okamura's willingness to serve, and spoke
in favor of his nomination. Mc Okamura expressed a strong desire to serve the County of
Hawaii.
Your Committee on Parks and Environmental Management recommends the approval of the
appointment of Mr. Arnold Okamura to the Hawaii County Environmental Management
Commission for a term ending December 31, 2008.
