Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication No. 513 and attached Bill No. 232, reports as follows:
Communication No. 513 and attached Bill No. 232 is from Bruce McClure, Director of Public Works, dated
February 13, 2004, submitting for authorization a passenger loading zone on the mauka side of Keawe Street at
Waianuenue Avenue.
The purpose of Bill No. 232 is to amend Chapter 24, article 1Q division 6, section 24-287, schedule 35 (passenger
loading zones), subsection (c) South Hilo, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 edition) by adding the
following to be appropriately numbered and to read as follows: Keawe Street, west side, from a point one
hundred eighty feet north of Kalakaua Street and extending twenty feet in the northerly direction, from 6:00 am to
6:00 pm.
According to Communication No. 513, the proposed passenger loading zone will provide for the safe loading and
unloading of guests at the Hilo Bay Hostel, as requested by the owner/operators of the hostel.
Your Committee is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 232 and recommends its passage on first
reading.
