Your Committee on Public Works and [ntergovetnmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication No. 582, reports as follows:
Communication No. 582 is from Keith Unger and Eric von Platen Luder, Owners, Alii Gardens
Marketplace, dated March 26, 2004, requesting a sign variance on the size of their signs to 3' x 6'
'fhe purpose of Communication 582 is to request a variance to make the signs more in scale with the
physical size of the project property (approximately 350' frontage and 2.5 acres) and from a moving
motorist's safety point of view, to identify the property in ample time so as to make a safe turn into the
property and avoid "turn rounds".
According to Communication No. 582, the need for the larger signs would be in keeping with the spirit
and purpose of the sign ordinance and public interest.
Your Committee recommends denial of the sign variance request and that Communication No. 582 be
filed.
