Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 586, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 586, dated April 7, 2004, is from Mayor Harry Kim submitting the
appointment of Ms. Diane Gentry to serve on the County of Hawaii Board of Appeals.
According to Communication No. 586, Ms. Gentry is a life long resident of Hawaii and
is a facilitator and trainer for Unlimited Learning. She is also a member of the Board of
Directors for Hui Malama and Papa Ola Lokahi. Ms. Gentry is a member of the
Republican Party and resides in Council District 5 (Puna). If confirmed, Ms. Gentry will
serve on the Board of Appeals until December 31, 2007.
At today's meeting, Mr. Wendell Hatada, Executive Assistant, Office of the Mayor, and
Ms. Gentry answered committee questions regarding the nomination. Ms. Gentry
informed this committee that she has served on a county board in the past, and is aware of
the level of difficulties and commitment that comes with the nomination. Members of
the committee commended Ms.Gentry's willingness to serve and spoke in favor of her
nomination.
Your Committee on Planning recommends the approval of the appointment of
Ms. Diane Gentry to the Hawaii County Board of Appeals for a term ending
December 31.2007.
