Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 587, reports as
follows:
Communication No. 587, dated April 7, 2004, is from Mayor Harry Kim submitting the
appointment of Mr. Bernard M. Konanui to serve on the County of Hawaii Water Board.
According to Communication No. 587, Mr. Konanui is a lifelong resident of Hawaii and
is a retired police officer and self-employed wood turner. Mr. Konanui is not affiliated
with any political party and resides in Council District 5 (Puna). If confirmed, he will
serve until December 31, 2008.
At today's meeting, Mr. Wendell Hatada, Executive Assistant, Office of the Mayor, and
Mr. Konanui answered committee questions regarding the nomination. Members of the
committee commended Mr. Konanui's willingness to serve and spoke in favor of his
nomination.
Your Committee on Planning recommends the approval of the appointment of Mr.
Bernard M. Konanui to the County of Hawaii Water Board for a term ending December
31, 2008.
