Flawai'i 96720 <br />Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 249-04, reports as follows: <br />Resolution No. 249-04. transmitted jointly with Bill No. 346 by Director of Finance <br />William ~I~akaba, via Communication No. 796, dated September 29.2004, authorizes the Office <br />of the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of Business <br />Economic Development, and Tourism for a GeoPowering the West grant. <br />The U.S. Department of Energy, through the State of Hawaii Department of Business, <br />Economic Development, and Tourism has authorized a $ 9,560 grant to the Hawaii County <br />Department of Research and Development to establish a working group to support utilization of <br />direct use of geothermal heat by gathering and providing information from and to the <br />community, the County government, and interest parties. <br />Pursuant to Section 4G-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, county departments must obtain the consent <br />of the council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting action to <br />be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend and receive any funds <br />or other assistance in connection with prgjects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those <br />powers. <br />Raymond Carr, Economic Developnrent Specialist of Research & Development, agreed that the <br />working group would include regional involvement and representatives from the Native <br />Hawaiian community. <br />For informational purposes, Mr. "Tyler voted kanalua twice. <br />Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 249-04 <br />and recommends its adoption. <br />smc <br /> <br />CHUNG X <br />SAFA RIK JC <br />ARA KAKI X <br />F.LA RIONOFF X <br />HOISCHUH X <br />JACORSON X <br />REYNOLDS X <br />TULAN(: X <br />TYLER X <br />Respectfully submitted <br />(~ <br />~` <br />REPOR"1' NJ,~, <br /> <br />ADOPTED: <br />
