SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT - WAIANUENUE AVENUE
PROPOSED SPEED LIMIT REDUCTION
35 MILE PER HOUR TO 25 MILE PER HOUR LIMIT
We received a request to reduce the existing 35 miles per hour speed limit to 25 miles per hour on
Waianuenue Avenue, from Waiau Street to the Piihonua Bridge (No. 25-2) in Piihonua Camp 3. A
location map is attached.
A speed study consisting of trial runs was conducted and we find 25 miles per hour to be a reasonable
speed for this section of Waianuenue Avenue. We also looked at the existing roadside conditions in
determining the proposed speed limit. The narrow shoulders with open ditch at various locations limit
lateral clearance for accident avoidance maneuvers.
We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment. Should you have any
