There is a budget shortfall in the Hawaii Fire Department's accounts due to the direct and indirect impact of increased fuel costs. The direct impact has been identified with increased utility costs and vehicle fuel costs, and the indirect costs associated with the cost of goods and services inclusive of delivery charges, mileage claims, and emergency operations associated with large brush fire incidents and ongoing volcanic eruptions. There are funds remaining and available in the Provision for Compensation Adjustment account as funds to cover unbudgeted collective bargaining increases have been transferred out. To ensure that payments to vendors are done on a timely basis, the Hawaii Fire Department is requesting a waiver from the Finance Committee and to have this resolution heard at the Council meeting scheduled for May 20, 2008. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Hawaii Fire Department. r?f William Takaba Director of Finance APPROVED: tw Harry Kim Mayor Enc. Comm. No. 12-to Ref.
