A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CONSTRUCTION OF A MEMORIAL MONUMENT
TO THE VETERANS OF THE KOREAN WAR.
WHEREAS, the Korean War is sometimes called "The Forgotten War" because it is often
overshadowed by World War II and the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, veterans of the Korean War wish to ensure that this conflict and their comrades
are not forgotten; and
WHEREAS, there is no Memorial Monument on Hawaii Island to honor the fallen heroes of
the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, the Korean War Veterans, Chapter 231, requests that the County of Hawaii
support their efforts to construct a Korean War Veterans Memorial Monument either in Lili`uokalani
Gardens at the corner of Banyan Drive and Lihiwai Street, Kalakaua Park, or next to the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial near the Wailoa Visitors Center; and
WHEREAS, installation of a Memorial Monument would be a fitting means to honor and
remember those who paid the supreme sacrifice in giving their lives to perpetuate the principles of this
great nation; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it shall
work with all County agencies and departments, the State of Hawaii, and other partners to assist the
Korean War Veterans, Chapter 231, with its dream of building a Korean War Veterans Memorial
Monument either in Lili`uokalani Gardens, Kalakaua Park, or next to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
near the Wailoa Visitors Center.

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this resolution
to the Honorable Mayor Harry Kim; all Hawaii Island Representatives and Senators of the State
Legislature; Mr. Hideo Gushiken, President, Korean War Veterans, Chapter 231; and LTC(ret) Robert
L. Montague, Project Plan & Coordinator, Korean War Veterans, Chapter 231.
