Re: Operating Budget
Enclosed is a resolution transferring $550,000 into the Fire Protection overtime
and miscellaneous salaries and wages accounts.
Because of the numerous fires around the island this fiscal year, the fire
department has had to put in a lot of overtime battling these unforeseen and
unexpected blazes. Its overtime and miscellaneous salaries accounts are
greatly overdrawn due to the fire personnel working under these hazardous
situations.
The department would like this resolution to go directly to the Council meeting
scheduled on June 1, 1998.

B. BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
Due to the severe drought conditions this year, brush fires
have continued to plague the Island. These alarms have
warranted additional manpower and as a result, increased the
overtime hours. Additional funds are needed for these
unforeseen circumstances which also include the items in the
Miscellaneous S&W.

RE: Resolution transferring $550,000 into the Fire Protection Overtime and
Miscellaneous Salaries and Wages Accounts
Pursuant to Section 1 (e) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written approval is submitted in regards to the attached, relating to a resolution
transferring $550,000 into the Fire Protection Overtime and Miscellaneous Wages Accounts,
waiving said referral from the Committee on Finance in order that appropriate action can be
taken by the Council at its next meeting.
In reviewing the contents of the referral, it is deemed advisable that such waiver be granted.
