Aloha Council Members,
The purpose of the county DU reso (639-08) IS to begin to GET some answers we can count on.
Why does Kona have one of the highest cancer rates in the state? ...and its not because we're "old" as
stated by the health dept...the average age is 37.
How do five cancers show up in a small group of girls at the high school, then their principal dies of the
same cancer?
Why are hunters reporting on an increase of tumors in sheep and goats on the mountain?
Why do all of the feral cats on the mountain have leukemia and auto-immune deficiencies similar to
radiation markers?
Why do five people I know, have trigeminal neuralgia and an additional fifteen people have similar
shocks in their face within a twenty mile radius of my house, when the number is only supposed to be 1
in 35,000 for this disease?
Why did residents radiation monitors zoom up to 75cpm, 55cpm above the normal 20, when the dust
blew over them at Pohakuloa?
These are some of the reports and rumors in the community. I have no idea if any of this is related or if it
has anything to do with depleted uranium radiation. BUT i would LIKE to know.
I'm not someone in a tinfoil hat. My feet are firmly on the ground. It is not unreasonable to want to err
on the side of caution.
I love this place and the people that live here. I've read and researched enough to know that you can't
always believe what the military tells you. As an American, I am deeply ashamed of what I have learned
that has been done with our money, in our name.
I worry this issue may turn out to be similar to past histories of the military ignoring health effects in
humans they have harmed, stalling, and hoping those affected will die.. before they have to pay for the
terrible harm they have caused.
As you know, for decades, they told guys coming back from Viet Nam, who had dioxin/agent orange
poisoning... that it was their imagination, that they were crazy. Finally they had to pay, and saved a lot
of money by stalling. Too bad for the Vietnamese, whose soil is STILL contaminated and the birth
defects ongoing. Some got a very small amount of money, ...for what its worth....but that's far away
and old news, right?
Such is the case with the poisoning of South Pacific Islanders, after decades of denial by our
government, a few got a small amount of money but many, whose illnesses did not meet the parameters

were just out of luck and their islands are contaminated forever. Same with Puerto Rico; Different
radiation, but still radiation.
Same with the government scientists including a total of 400,000 nuclear workers. Americans. They
were all told the uranium and plutonium was safe; they fought for years to get compensation for
radiation poisoning and they and their families are suffering gravely to this day.
None of these people had studies to rely on; "THEY" WERE the studies! Our government holds all of
our money for the research of their choosing. I would like to see some resident testing in this reso or at
the very least, some council discretionary funds spent on this. It may go a long way to calming people's
fears; it would cost pennies.
This is why we must insist on this resolution; even though its not strong enough and doesn't mean much,
except for the fact that the idea would spread to county councils across the country in similar situations
where council members tried to protect their constituencies; we would be the national leader.
Here on the big island, we must err on the side of caution. We don't want to join the long list of others
who have been poisoned with radiation and denied justice. If I were a Pacific Islander I would hate to be
remembered as a grown up that didn't ask questions.
I'm a patriot but I'm not willing to carry a tumor for my country.
We want solid answers, not hokus pokus. Please support reso 639-08; Its the reasonable thing to do.
