My name is Garrett Webb. I am a landscape contractor from Kona, currently
serving on the Kailua Village Design Commission. I am writing to urge the
Hawaii County Council to use all of its resources to find 9 solution to the problem
facing our community--the development of the beach presently owned by Sobay,
Inc.. While preparing to review this project when it came before the Kailua
Village Design Commission, I stood on the Pxact spot where the ocean side wall
of the proposed condominium might sorrieday stand and was amazed to be
standing--ON THE BEACH!
It is my hope that the DLNR will certify the shoreline realistically and that the
question of building a four story condo where the Kailua Village Master Plan
calls for two story buildings only, vrill become a moot issue. However, the
potential of losing such an irreplaceable resource for Kailua Village needs to be
addressed from every side and with eve tool at the County's disposal.
Members of the Committee on Finance, please heed the needs of our community
as they seek to safeguard a lirrited resource for the sake of future generations
while simultaneously protecting the investor-nts of Sobay, Inc.
