Testimony in support of Resolu~on 639-08 on Depleted Uranium, May S, 2008
Dear Counts! members,
Excuse me #or rrot being able to te~sbify in person. I am a member d the Board of
Directors of the Justice and tartness Ministries of the United Chtuch of Christ as watt as
~ resident of Hawau'i lsiand. You all krrow the Ten Commandments in tl'~ Old
Testament of the Bible. The fourth commandment as quaffed in the Book of Exodus,
Chapter 20, verses sight through eleven is:
Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy. Six days yap shall labor and do all
your work. But the se~nenth day is a sabbath to the Lori your God; you shalt not do
any work--you, Yaur son or your daughter, your male a female slave, your livestock,
or the a~en resident in your towns. For in six days the Lrord made heaven and earth,
the sea, and ail that i~ in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord
blessed the Sabbath day and oons~cxated it
You may not kno~+v tha# the Seaenth Year was called the Sabbath Year. I quote again
from the Book of Exodus, C~ap~tec' 23~ verses ten and +eleven:
For six years you shah saw your tarxi and gather in its yield; b~ tl~e seventh year
you shall ~t it rest and ~e falbw, so that the poor of your people may eat; and what
they leave the w#d animals msy eat. You shalt do the same with yrour vineyard, and
with your olive orchard.
The seventh year or the Sabbath Year mandate was to let the land rest and lie fallow in
order that it can rejuvenate itself as wed as allow the poor and the wild animals to eat.
To contaminate the land by chemical pa~ion or Depie~cf uranium {DU) radiation ~
destroying the abi~ty of the land to naturally rejwena~e itself. Tlws. pollu~iort due ~o
chernic~ls or Depleted Uranium (DU) is dearly against the wishes of a God who created
the earth, water, plants and trees with seed in its fruit for food that humans can eat The
Jews, Chnsdsns and AAuslims wFa all value the !-~bnew Bible should be against
pollu~on caused by Depleted Urani~n. VYe Chi, Jews and Ntt~slims, because wee
believe in a Gvd v~o cxeat~d the land and a mandate that the land shouikl be allowed to
regularly rejuvenate itself. should be in solidarity with Kanaka MaoG why believe in
Aloha Aina or taking care aF the land in order that the nand take care of you. We believe
in irking care of tt~ land not only because it a logical and moral right but because it was
a trad~ional and wstanary rigtrt guarantees by tt~e oonsti#ution of the Kingdom of
Hawaii and included in the c~nsdtution of the State of Hawai i in Arpde fiwefve, Secction
seven, which reds:
The StAte reaffirms and shall p~o~ect all rights, cxistom~ii~r and tradibon~lly
exerased for subsisi~en~, cui~rai and religious purposes and possessed i~
ahupua'a tenarns who are descendarrts of nave Hawaiians who inh~bited~e

The m~it~ty acknowledges there is Depleted Uranium (Dln radiation c~onta~i~ation at
PTA. The question is rat, r mt~h DU is already round at PTA?" A!i po~~iion't5'
