Aloha We the people of Ocean View are still trying to get your attention in reference to the proposed
Transfer Station you want to put in at the poorly chosen site 150-60. We are appalled that anyone would
want to put in such a facility in a neighborhood instead of downtown in our business district, zoned
urban expansion, where we want it. This project started out costing $1.5 million then shot up too $3.1
million and now the outrageous price is $4.4 million. The price keeps going up with no end in sight for
the final figure. This is too great of a burden to put upon the taxpayers'.
The EIS never clearly stated exactly what will be on the site. How can it be determined what impact this
facility will have on the environment? This site is being financed by the taxpayers to benefit one
developer. We pay for the entire infrastructure, which means bringing in the utilities, paving the
entranceway plus all the highway improvements and all the Minipro storage developer has to do is pay a
connection fee for the electricity. Minipro should be paying for the infrastructure instead of taking
advantage of all us taxpayers'.
The community wants their convenience facility at South Point Rent-All. It is ideally situated in the
most appropriate location. Much of the infrastructure is already in place. The electricity is there, the lot
has been bulldozed, there is a turning lane from the highway and the roadway is currently used by
commercial vehicles. HI 5 and used motor oil are already accepted at this location. All we really need is
the two chute trailer that we were promised.
It will save millions of dollars. Needed infrastructure improvements in the downtown area are inevitable
in the near future. An upgrade to the existing roadways will be a boon to Ocean View. Spend our money
wisely, not wastefully.
EIS says the South Point Rent-All land is not well suited because it provides little to no buffer. When in
fact DEM uses private property as buffers. They claim there will be more afflicted properties when in
fact this location borders a 500 acre parcel where the owner has freely offered the County 21 acres for a
transfer station. The rest of the surrounding area is in the urban expansion zone. Site 150-60 has
numerous 1 acre lots across the street.
We need recycling in convenient locations in our shopping centers instead of hidden away at transfer
stations. Make it easy for residents and tourists to recycle. "One Stop Chores" where we take care of our
daily needs and recycle at the same time. Instead of stock piling all these items for days or weeks we can
just deposit them as we frequent our shops. Put a bin at the Post Office to deposit all the junk mail.
Putting a reverse vending machine by the refreshment machines is yet another way to save our
environment. Recycling in shopping areas goes on nation wide. It is about time we do the same here.
