HILO BAY PARK & RECREATION COMPLEX
March 1998
This comprehensive strategy will implement the Milo Bay Park & Recreation Complex which
encompasses the region from Reed's Bay to the Wailuku River. This will include the development
of the necessary infrastructure and facilities to enhance and emphasize the cultural and natural
resources of the area to serve as the gateway to thazit lo.

Proposed Improvement Projects
It is intended that a matrix of information regarding these projects will be developed to include
cost estimates, schedule for implementation with specific tasks identified, prioritization of
projects, identification of government agencies with permitting authority and identification of
public interest or community groups for involvement.
AREA "A":

1. Hilo Bayfront Beach Park: a) Parking expansion as designed ° L~.

2. Hoolulu Complex Expansion: a) Acquire lands between Manono St. and Wailoa Park
from KS/BE, State and smaller landowners

Manono and Kalanikoa
c) Acquire lands in the vicinity of the Kuawa and Kalanikoa
corner
d) Acquire Banyan Golf course and develop 18 hole, par 3
municipal golf course

2. Reed's Bay Beach Park: a) Acquire former Orchid Isle Hotel site from state and convert to
parking and additional beach park area
b) Landscape and prohibit vehicles onto existing beach park area
c) Transplant existing banyan trees within the park to other side of
Banyan Dr.
d) Acquire State lands across from existing park for expansion
