SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT/KAPIOLANI STREET
PROPOSED COMPRESSION OF ONE-WAY TRAFFIC PATTERN ON SUNDAYS
Kapiolani Street between Waianuenue Avenue and Ponahawai Street was established as a one-way street
on Sundays between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to provide parking for St. Joseph Church and
Glad Tidings Church members.
We observed that the parking problems during Sunday services have diminished since St. Joseph Church
added more parking on their property and the Hilo Union School parking lot became available.
Kapiolani Street between Waianuenue Avenue and Haili Street is still heavily used; however, the section
between Haili Street and Ponahawai Street is minimally used. This amendment will terminate the one-
way traffic at Haili Street on Sundays. A location map is attached.
Mr. Richard Fisher of the St. Joseph Church and Pastor Henry Kahalehili of the Glad Tidings Church on
Kapiolani Street have no objections to this amendment.
We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment. Should you have any
