Subject: Bill 253 - In Support of Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee Recommendation
Hon. Pete Hoffman, Council Chairman and Council Members,
Thank you for the opportunity to provide comments on Bill 253.
There are many important items included in the current budget proposal. As Co-Chair of the Kona Traffic Safety
Committee, I personally support any consideration to address Fund Balance-Lapsed Highway Fund Projects - as
the familiar refrain from Administration representatives during our local meetings continually cite a lack of
funding to begin or complete projects.
A major consideration for the current budget is a timely measure to deal with oil/gas profiteering that sorely
effects our economy - support to advance safe alternative transportation modes that reduce traffic volume and
oil/gas consumption. I encourage the Council to give weight to the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee
recommendations and implement those recommendations in the FY 2008-2009 Budget.
