THE HONORABLE HAWAII COUNTY COUNCIL MEMBERS
There is never enough funding for projects within the County. The present, ond float, Bill 285,
contain funding for many very worth while projects. It would be difficult to prioritize the list as all
of the projects listed impact different segments of our population.
However, one of the projects listed in Bill 285 deserves special consideration due to its' impact
on the present and future of our island. In this time of high fuel costs, health concerns, and
preservation of open spaces for public enjoyment within developed areas, the Waimea Trails
and Greenways is in place to lead by example.
For the past 14 years, members of this committee have worked diligently and succeeded in
obtaining an easements to build a bicycle, pedestrian, trail through the center of Waimea town.
This easement follows the Waikoloa Stream and provides an off street link to our schools,
residential areas, and businesses. It will encourage pedestrian traffic, diminish vehicular traffic
and improve physical fitness in a safe picturesque setting, away from traffic.
The easement is in place, final drawings are being made, interest generated, and all that
remains is the funding. Please support the funding for the Waimea Trails and Greenways
Project leading the way toward more pedestrian friendly communities.
Sincerely,
Leningrad Elarionoff
