Aloha Council Members,
As a long-time resident of Waimea and 4th generation Kama'aina I find it disturbing that so
much development is happening in West Hawaii so quickly without a requirement that such
development occur only AFTER proper infrastructure such as schools, emergency and health
services, and sustainable food and water supplies are assured. With some for-thought we can
plan for sustainable communities. To this end please help preserve agricultural and
conservation zoning. Please require developers (who often seem to come briefly, make
money, then leave this special place deminished) to contribute to the community such as its
schools, preservation of open spaces, low income housing, etc. Please support sustainable
development. In particular, I live 1 mile from Waimea town center where my kids attend
school. I would walk and bike with them to town and school if I weren't worried for our safety
along the busy roads of Waimea. I know many other parents who have voiced this same
sentiment. Please support Bill 285, the full $112 million bond float, because it contains funding
for projects I care deeply about, especially the Waimea Trail and Greenway and safety for kids
walking/bicycling to and from school.
