REOUF,ST: To create a revenue account to deposit an estimated $12,000 in receipts from the the 1998 U.S. Open Synchronized Swimming Championships to be held at Kawamoto Swim Stadium, July 11, through July 18, 1998. (see attached event entry and schedule) To create an account and appropriate the $12,000 to expend funds for preparation and production of the 1998 U.S. Open Synchronized Swimming Championships. This event is being co-sponsored by the County of Hawaii, Department of Parks and Recreation. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): The 1998 U.S. OPEN SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS will be held at Kawamoto Swim Stadium in Hilo, Hawaii, from July 12 - July 18, 1998. A gate admission fee of $5.00 will be charged by Aquatics Division for anyone over 12 years of age for the Junior or Senior Division Final Competitions. The fee will be $8.00 for both the Junior and Senior Division Final Competitions if purchased together. There are only limited funds budgeted and available for purchasing materials, supplies, and services toward production of this competition. The revenue collected for this event can be used to offset the expense toward preparation of our facility for the National audience expected to be in attendance. A copy of the event entry and schedule is attached. Council Action is necessary to deposit receipts and appropriate funds to host the U.S. SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS. ENTRY DEADLINE All entries must be postmarked no later than May 29, 1998. Use Postal Form #3817 to verify mailing date. If a qualifying event is held after the entry deadline for this competition, a provisional entry must be submitted according to the above deadline. Make check payable to USSS. Any swimmer who is listed as an alternate for a routine and who is not swimming any other routine event shall pay the entry fee. (Handbook, Appendix C, pg. 3) ? Sponsor Fee $20 per competitor, payable once. Make check payable to Hawaii Sports. ? Luau $30.00 per person, Children 12 and under $15.00. Make check payable to Hawaii Sports. ? Participant Each club will receive I coach pass and 1 chaperone pass (for every eight (8) athletes) Venue Pass in addition to the athlete venue passes for each team per division. Additional all venue passes are available for $10.00 each. Make check payable to P & R Aquatics. ? Children 12 and under admitted free. Make check payable to P & R Aquatics. EVENTS Figures For U.S. Open, Junior Division One of the five U.S. Junior Groups will be drawn prior to the competition. (See pg. 7, Figure Rule 11.13) Junior Figure Draw to be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 11, 1998 at the pool. For U.S. Open, Senior Division One of the four U.S. Senior Groups will be drawn prior to the competition. (See pg. 7, Figure Rule ILA) Senior Figure Draw to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 1998 at the pool. Routines For U.S. Open, Junior Division Routine competition will be held in Solo, Duet, Trio and Team for 14-15 and I6-17 age groups. For U.S. Open, Senior Division Routine competition will be held in Solo, Duet, Trio, Team Technical Routine and Team Free Routine. ROUTINE RESTRICTIONS Athletes may qualify and enter (based on age and score) both divisions of the competition. POOL SPECS Length: 50 meters (Lane line placed at 25 meters for competition area) Width: 25 yards Depth: 1 I' sloping to 5' at 25 meters. Approximately 50' of deep water ranging between 9-11'. Lane Markings: Both length and width direction in the pool Eight (8) lanes lengthwise. Deck to Water: On three sides, 6 inches Sealing Capacity: Athletes 1200, Spectators 1200 Required Entry : Enter water from deck under diving platform or between diving boards. See enclosed pool diagrarn. VENUE SEATING Seating for the alhleles in a designated area will be provided in the stands. Spectator seating is reserved for non- competitors with venue passes and/or purchased tickets. NO FOOD is permitted on the pool deck. iOUND EQUIPMENT I Sound equipment rented from Pacific Sound will be used for practice with music and competition, this includes a variable speed tape deck and underwater speaker. A back-up system will be available on site. 'RACI'ICE Open pool (no music) will be available in the competition pool on Saturday, July 11, 1998 from 1200 noon to 6.00 pm. Practice times with music will be assigned in the competition pool for each team routine, once in Start List order. Refer to the schedule for practice times and be on deck ready to swim at the appropriate time. Please notify the Sound Center Manager if you will not be swinuning during the practice time. Thursday, July 16 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Technical Routine Friday, July 17 2:30 p.m. - 430 p.m. Free Routine Two practice pools (no music) will be available during routine competition. The NAS Pool, a 25 yard facility, located in Hilo, one (1) mile from the competition pool. The Pahoa Pool, a 50 meter facility, located in Pahoa, 20-30 minute drive from Hilo. Fun. 1998 U.S. OPEN SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS HILO, HAWAII PARADE OF ATHLETES/OPENING CEREMONIES The Parade of Athletes for the Junior and Senior Divisions will be held prior to the 14-15 & 16-17 Team Final Routine competition on Wednesday, July 15, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. All athletes from all clubs arc encouraged to participate. Dress for the parade is team warm-up suits or appropriate team uniform. J A traditional Hawaiian Royal Court, in costume, will be presented complete with Hawaiian music, dancers and singers. GELLING No Gelling is allowed in the restrooms, on the pool deck or in the spectator area. A designated gelling station will be available at the facility. We recommend that you gel prior to coming to the pool. OFFICIALS UNIFORM Officials will be wearing white tops and blue bottoms for all routine judging. PROGRAM We are inviting clubs to have photos included in the Official Program. Send black and white photos along with $25.00 per photo toSuc Ahlf by May 1, 1998. Label the back of each photo with Club Name, City. State. Athletes' Names, and Age Group. Photos will not be returned. CLUB BANNERS Club banners will be displayed in the facility by the meet organizing committee. By completing the Club Banner Form, a place will be reserved for your barmer. PHOTOS We will have a photographer oil hand to take photos of your club, individual, routine action shots and awards ceremonies. Check your registration packet for more details. CHAMPIONSHIP MERCHANDISE There will be Championship items available for purchase in addition to USSS items tluoughout the Championship. Craft booths with Hawaiian crafts will be displayed (see attached flyer). ROUTINE TAPES Routine tapes should be turned-in to the Sound Center Manager, at minimum, an hour prior to each event. All tapes must be clearly marked with Club name, Competitor names and Event. Limit of one routine per „ a~ tape. Music should be recorded at the start of the tape. Tapes will not be rewound by the Sound Center Manager after they are turned in. There will be specific times scheduled for timing of tapes: timing will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis. During these times, you may request to have I -1 j i minutes of your tape timed and request a pitch adjustment based on this.
