Re: Resolution Accepting Donated Equipment
Enclosed is a resolution accepting two (2) sets of Keiki I.D. Equipment (camera,
laminator, and die cutter) from the Chevron Companies for the Police
Department for your approval. One set will be for East Hawaii and the other
for West Hawaii.

Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
In accordance with requirements of Chapter 2, Article XIII,
Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, we request
Council's approval for acceptance of two sets of Keiki I.D.
equipment (camera, laminator, and die cutter) for use by our
Community Policing Teams in West and East Hawaii.
The donation of the equipment, which is valued at approximately
$3,000.00, is being coordinated by Mr. Dave Young, Public
Affairs Manager of The Chevron Companies.
Council's approval of this matter is appreciated.

Dear Chief Carvalho:
Chevron is pleased to be able to support the Big Island Community Policing Teams by donating
two sets of Keiki I.D. equipment (camera, laminator and die cutter) one set for West Hawaii
and one set for East Hawaii. The value of the equipment is approximately $3,000.
In addition, Chevron is proposing to partner with the Big Island's Community Policing Teams by
offering to provide film, laminating sleeves and pre-printed Keiki I.D. cards. This is identical to
the partnership arrangement we currently conduct with the Honolulu Police Department through
the office of Assistant Chief Barbara Wong.
During the last two years, our exposure with the Keiki I.D. Program on Oahu has been very
positive. Chevron finds it is an excellent community service that is wanted and appreciated by
local communities. At the same time, Community Policing Teams on Oahu have found it to be a
valuable tool in their outreach strategies. CPT's on Oahu have used Keiki I.D.'s to have a
presence at Community Fairs, Boy Scout events, schools and shopping centers.
In conversations with Sgt. James Sanborn, we believe that the Big Island CPT's will be equally
successful with the program.
With your approval and acceptance, we would be pleased to proceed with this program on your
island.
