RESOLUTION NO. 659 08
(Draft 2)
A RESOLUTION URGING THE DIRECTOR OF MASS TRANSIT TO IMPLEMENT
REGULARLY SCHEDULED BUS SERVICE TO AND FROM HILO AIRPORT.
WHEREAS, currently there is no bus service to or from the Hilo Airport; and
WHEREAS, we must endeavor to provide transportation to all citizens that need it; and
WHEREAS, with ever increasing fuel costs, it is increasingly difficult for drivers to fuel,
insure and license personal vehicles; and
WHEREAS, taxis provide a valuable public service at the airport, however, not every
one can afford to use a taxi; and
WHEREAS, there are days when cruise boats make it more profitable for taxis to service
the pier and taxis are not readily available at the Hilo Airport; and
WHEREAS, it is important to have a seamless, intermodal transportation for residents,
visitors and workers for a healthy economy and society; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that bus service to and from the Hilo Airport is an important public service.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Director of Mass Transit will implement bus service to
and from the Hilo Airport.
