Re: Bill 285 Council members Over the last several years Waimea town has grown tremendously. Traffic has increased exponentially, while infrastructure has not. Our current lack of infrastructure is negatively impacting our quality of life. Pressure on our community has been incredible. Commuting through our small 4 mile town during peak traffic, can take as long as an hour, and many thousands of motorists commute daily through our town to and from the resorts daily. (@4 miles an hour) Our community desperately needs traffic circulation improvements. As fuel prices have spiked, townspeople are resorting to other modes of transportation as well, including, bicycling, walking, running or riding horses to their destinations, however, we do not have the infrastructure needed to safely facilitate alternate modes of transportation. We have no bike lanes, a shortage of cross walks and virtually no sidewalks. We have no trailways or interconnected parks, and we desperately need them. We need the Waimea trails and greenways project to for allow for alternative modes of transportation, to foster community pride. Daily cars, trucks, and long haul vehicles from Kawaihae and Hilo harbors transverse the failing bridges in Waimea. In conjunction with the Waimea trails and green ways project, our bridges desperately need replacement. Additionally our community also needs a district park, and comprehensive planning and design. I urge to to approve all of the projects slated for South Kohala under Bill 285. Sincerely yours, Mark & Laura Boehm Taxpayer constituent P.O.
