My nine is Guy Toymna, President of 112 Technologies, Inc a cormpany hA?.'- rl on
Hawaii Island involved in energy and transportation fuels, 1-.lawai`i Island has the
opporitrnity to be less reliant on imported fossil Reels for both our electricity, ground
transporWtion fuel and aviation fuels. The creation of the proposed Department of
Energy Sustainability is an excellent way to streamline research and deciSionmakinb on
how our County will make best decisions on our energy and food security.
My hope is that this department will have a well courdinatud pkiii to rcd.ucc ase of
imported fossil fuel by creating a strategy to locally produce using renewable energy
sources, aviation and ground transportation fuel simultaneously while working with the
electrical utility to move into using more renewable power suurccs.

help everyone involved in festivals and events to have a better chance at sustainability and insure the high
quality of life our community members deserve and have come to expect.
Project Goals and Outcomes: Our goals are to connect a somewhat disconnected and communication
challenged group of organizations, individuals and businesses producing festivals and events on Hawaii
Island and determine the best method to empower them to better manage these activities for the
community and visitors. Our measurable outcomes include a database of contact and event information, a
network for keeping this information current via a professional association, and a training ground to share
skills, information, and resources.
Methodology: Our conference coordinator is researching venue possibilities that will meet our needs for
the summit and has sought and received the support of BIVB Marketing Coordinator Kristin McGrath,
Dr. Dane Silva, Michael Saiz, among others. She has begun compiling data on events and will request the
County Department of Research & Development assist with CPEP contact information. Participation in
the IFEA conference in September and discussions with IFEA will help determine what is required for
credit in their certification program and to get input on methodologies. Once a site and date are secured an
invitation will be sent, facilitators will be contracted, programs developed and appropriate handouts and
materials developed. Prior to the summit, training will be held for facilitators and others for on-site
management tasks. We hope that R&D will assist us in identifying and/or supplying a keynote speaker,
facilitators and/or presenters to participate in the summit. The number of people attending will measure
the success of the summit and through a written evaluation process for everyone involved. We would like
to have 150 people attending. The success of the research leading up to the summit will be measured by
the development of a comprehensive database that will be provided to County of Hawaii Council
members, R&D's tourism specialist as well as the HTA, BIVB, Hawaii Convention and Visitors Bureau
and participants in the summit. Following the summit, we will assess the data gathered and the
evaluations to determine next steps and set up the follow up activities.
