Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred
Communication No. 1178, reports as follows:
Communication No. 1178, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated February 13, 2008, submits
for confirmation the appointment of Gene Carvalho to the County of Hawaii Liquor
Commission.
Mr. Carvalho is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. He retired as Human Resources Manager at
Chevron USA, Inc. in 1995. Mr. Carvalho was a member of the Kailua (Oahu) Jaycees.
Mr. Carvalho states that he is a registered Democrat. If confirmed, he will serve a term to end on
December 31, 2012.
Mr. Carvalho was present at the meeting. Your Committee spoke in support of his appointment.
The Committee agreed that Mr. Carvalho does not have to appear before the full Council for
final reading.
Pursuant to Section 13-4(b), Hawai`i County Code, members of the Liquor Commission shall be
appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.

Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation recommends confirmation of the
appointment of Gene Carvalho to the County of Hawaii Liquor Commission.
