Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 555-08, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 555-08, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 261, by Director of Finance
William Takaba, via Communication No. 1066, dated February 25, 2008, authorizes the Office
of the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the United States of America for the FY 2007
Assistance to Firefighters Grant for the Hawaii Fire Department.
The Department of Homeland Security and the Office for Domestic Preparedness, through its
FY 2005 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, has authorized a $244,560 grant to the
Hawaii County Fire Department for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant. These funds will be
used to acquire video conferencing equipment for 18 different locations around the island. The
equipment will enhance intra-department communications and interaction.
Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, County departments must obtain the consent
of the Council to enter into agreements with the Federal or State Governments respecting action
to be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend and receive any
funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those
powers.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 555-08,
and recommends its adoption.
