Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 289, reports as follows:
Bill No. 289, transmitted by Council Member J Yoshimoto, via Communication No. 1182, dated
April 15, 2008, is a proposed ordinance to amend Chapter 19, Section 19-2, of the Hawaii
County Code 1983 (2005 Edition) Definitions, and to establish a new article relating to solar
water heater tax credit.
The purpose of this measure is to add new definitions to Section 19-2, and establish a new article
that would provide a one-time tax credit per tax map key of up to $300 for the installation of a
solar water heater on a single-family dwelling, ohana dwelling, farm dwelling, duplex, or
double-family dwelling unit(s).
Council Member J Yoshimoto stated that he hopes this measure will encourage residents to
become more energy-efficient.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 289, and
recommends it pass first reading.
