These resolutions support the trading of abandoned County roadways which could be developed into sections of the Ka`apuni o Hawaii Pathway (a vision for a aterunver Ann C.Peterson multi-use trail encircling the island, supported by the County Council Resolution No. 269-98). Aiwon m promote trrH/csaii7ty The Old Walua Road Bike & Pedestrian Scenic Route is a perfect example of . educwtxon, and asa/e how these old corridors can be made available for alternatives modes of environment on roadways and trails for transportation to commute and recreate. Opened in 1996, the Old Walua Road /rogation, i multi-use lane is in constant use by residents and visitors who are anxious for more fitness, and alternative modes of transportation : trails to be developed. Studies done on the over 3,000 multi-use trails nation-wide have shown that if this area is slated for development, a multi-use trail running through it would increase property values, and increase the selling price of adjacent land. Not to mention the many other benefits as defined in Resolution 269-98, such as providing a sense or community, allowing for healthier life-styles, and offering a safe place for children tc play. Please do not adopt these resolutions which promote the further loss o potential right-of-ways for the Ka'apuni o Hawai'i Pathway. Sincerely, be (4kb-site: ! Ann C.
