Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to submit the nomination of Robert H.
Makuakane of Ka'u, to the Hawaii County Water Commission, to
replace Anna Cariaga of Ka'u, whose term expired on
December 31, 1997.
Mr. Makuakane is a 54-year resident of Hawaii and is presently
retired. Prior to his retirement, he served as an Executive
Assistant to Mayor Stephen Yamashiro (1993-1997), was a Hawaii

being the President of the Ka'u Community Association, a member
of the Ka'u Band Booster Club and serves as a coach for various
athletic activities. He is a registered Democrat.
If approved, Mr. Makuakane will serve a term to end on
December 31, 2002. Should the Council need further information
