• An 85,000 square foot complex that will be situated next to Kealakehe Parkway in North Kona
and will consolidate 28 County depts and one State agency under one roof.
• County agencies are curently scattered at different locations in West Hawaii, agencies renting or
leasing office space.
• Ground breaking anticipated in November 2008.
• Construction timeline is two years.
• Projected opening to the public is 2011.
• Approximately 30% will be energized by photovoltaic panels.
• Public Works decides who builds the Civic Center, next Monday, May 12. Three firms are in the
selection process.
• Public Works requests $25 million for FY 08-09, inclusive of the $7 million in funds that have
lapsed from FY 07-08.
• The cost of the project increases from $37 million to $55 million.
• Project is estimated to cost between $50-55 million. Original costs were projected at $58 million.
• Center is designed to accommodate 306 employees in the year 2037.
• It will accommodate 28 offices and 221 staff in 2011. Preliminary offices are:
• Civil Defenses Civil Services County Clerk, Elections• Kona Council Members• Data
Systems • Environmental Mgt • Real Property Tax• Motor Vehicle Registrations Fires
Office of Housing and Community Development •Liquor Controls Mayor's Office •Aging
