Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 974,
reports as follows:
Communication No. 974 is transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated September 2, 1998,
nominating Sophie T. Keller of Council District 5 to the Hawaii County Transportation Commission.
Ms. Keller is a 5-year resident of Hawaii and is a registered nurse. Since 1994, Ms. Keller has
worked as a private practitioner in acupuncture. She is also a foster parent under the auspices of the
Child Protective Services, and does volunteer work with several community groups working with
the elderly and disabled. Ms. Keller reports that she is not a member of any political party.
If appointed, Ms. Keller will represent Council District 5, a seat that has been vacant since the
resignation of Lee Robbins, and she will serve the balance of the unexpired term, which will end an
December 31, 1999.
Your Committee on Public Works and Parks recommends the approval of the nomination of
Sophie T. Keller to the Hawaii County Transportation Commission.
