Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 142
and attached Bill No. 42, reports as follows:
The purpose of Bill No. 42 is to amend chapter 24, article 8, division 1, section 24-190, to
authorize the Department of Public Works to enlarge the length of prohibited parking areas
adjacent to public and private driveways, crosswalks, and intersections.
Communication No. 142 is a letter from Donna Fay K. Kiyosaki, Chief Engineer, dated
February 4, 1997, which transmits Bill No. 42 to the Council for its consideration. In this
Communication, the Chief Engineer notes that the length of prohibited parking areas adjacent to
driveways, crosswalks, and intersections presently provided for in the Code is inadequate. To
further clarify the language of the amendment, the Chief Engineer submitted Bill No. 42, Draft 2
which states that the Department of Public Works may establish prohibited parking areas along
driveways, crosswalks, and intersections, for distances up to 75 feet when appropriate signs aze
installed.
Your Committee is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 42, Draft 2 and
recommends that it pass first reading.
