I am the business manager for the Fern Forest Community Association roads maintenance corporation, so I receive the phone calls that come in regularly about abandoned vehicles and junk-heaps along our 45 miles of private roads. J I believe I can say with certainty that I speak for all residents and landowners of property within this subdivision when I say MAHALO for helping to improve our environmental quality. I have heard that over 100 vehicles have been removed from our roads and yards this year already. Please keep this program going for as long as necessary, we still have many more to go! Please take a few minutes to determine whether you have any landscaping, fencing, etc. within the road easement. If you do have any treasures within the easement that you don't want destroyed by a bulldozer (orchids, hapu'u, rock walls, fencing, vehicles etc.) please move them back into your property as soon as possible. The road board is planning the 2008 road projects which will include widening, and mowing. We do not know at this time which roads will receive work, but eventually they all will, so don't procrastinate. If you have anything in the easement you wish to save, move it now. We plan to begin our 2008 projects by February 1. Looking for Road Conditions monitors (volunteers)... Don't cringe! This is a simple one. We are looking for one or two residents on each road to report road conditions to the president on a semi monthly basis. Ideally this would be someone who travels the entire section of their road regularly and who is also willing to report abandoned vehicles to the County for removal, as soon as they appear. Please phone the office and leave your name, a contact number and the road you are willing to monitor, and someone will return your call. Looking for more volunteers... Okay, this one requires a shovel and some ambition. We have a spot drop program for pothole filling. If you are willing to put in a few hours shoveling gravel into potholes (on the road ...not in your driveway!) upon board approval, we will arrange to have a load of gravel stock piled at a convenient location on your road. Call the office if you are willing to be a pothole filler. Just a note... Removing gravel from Fern Forest roads for your personal use is not only prohibited, but will also incur the wrath of your neighbors! And should a board member drive by and see an obvious path where gravel has been scraped from the road and deposited into your driveway, you can expect a bill from the road board for the gravel which you have "purchased" from the Fern Forest Community Association.
