Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 377
and attached Resolution No 119, reports as follows:
The purpose of Resolution No. 119 is to authorize the County of Hawaii to acquire private
property along Wainaku Street for permanent easement purposes. This resolution authorizes the
Corporation Counsel to initiate eminent domain proceedings, pursuant to Chapter 101, Hawaii
Revised Statutes, to take, acquire, and condemn certain private properties necessary for
permanent easement purposes and for temporary construction purposes. Acquisition of this
easement will enable the County to construct sidewalks along Wainaku Street and consequently
promote the safety of school children and other pedestrians who walk along this roadway.
Communication No. 377 is a letter from Corporation Counsel Richard D. Wurdeman dated
June 25, 1997, which transmits Resolution No. ] 19 to the Council for its review and
consideration.
Your Committee did not express any concern over the approval of Resolution No. 119.
Your Committee is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 119 and
recommends its passage on first reading.
