Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance appropriating $500,000 for reconstruction of
various curves on Saddle Road and Kaumana Drive. By improving the
geometric and friction coefficient of the curves, the number of accidents
presently occurring should be greatly reduced.

Amendment to Ordinance Bill 98-50 to add Saddle Road / Kaumana Drive
Curve Improvement project. Work to include the reconstruction of
various curves on Saddle Road and Kaumana Drive. Total cost for
construction and land acquisition is $500,000.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
There are numerous curves on Saddle Road/ Kaumana Drive at which a large
number of accidents have been occurring. Although most of the accidents
are probably due to inattention and speeding, improving the geometrics
and friction coefficient of the curve will reduce the number of
accidents occurring.
