MESSAGE: Dear Mr. Yagong,
I am writing regarding the Public Works proposal to make Kahakai Road in Kailua-Kona
a one way street in the southerly direction. I own an office building on the South East end
of Kahakai Road and feel that this proposal will negatively impact the flow of trafiic on this
road and inconvenience all the property owners on this end of the street. Currently we can
easily access our property from the southern entrance of Kahakai Road. If we had to enter
from the Northern entrance we would be forced to fight traffic and make a left hand turn
from Aili Drive into the Huggos side of the road where it is often impassable because of
delivery trucks parked outside the restaurant. Then we would have to go around the buses
and trucks parked outside the Royal Kona Resort. This would not make for a smooth traffic
flow Furthermore every owner and guest of the Hale Kona Kai condominiums and many
of the guests checking into the Kona Reef would have to use this same congested route.
Perhaps you could limit the flow of traffic to one way up to the Royal Kona Resort as this
wit! ei urinate drivers exiting from the Northern end of Kahakai Road.
Please distribute this to the County Council's Public Works and Parks committee prior to
their 9 AM meeting on October 6, 1998.
Sincerely,
