Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication No. 1288, regarding Bill 316, reports as follows:
Bill 316, transmitted by Director of Public Works, Bruce McClure, via Communication
No. 1288, dated June 5, 2008 amends Chapter 24, article 10, division 5, section 24-284, schedule
32 (Two hour parking areas), paragraph (c) South Hilo, subparagraph (9), of the Hawaii County
Code 1983 (2005 Editions, as amended), is amended to read as follows:
"(9) Kamehameha Avenue, from Waianuenue Avenue to Ponahawai Street, except for
applicable bus stops and loading zones during specified times as outlined in chapter 24,
article 10, divisions 3 and 6."
The intent of this amendment is to update the Hawaii County Code.
There was no testimony from the public on this proposed bill.
Traffic Division Chief Ron Thiel appeared before your committee. Mr. Thiel commented that
this proposed traffic amendment designates the former bus stop into a two-hour parking area in
Downtown Hilo.

and intent of Bill 316, and recommends it passage on first reading.
