RESOLUTION CREATING A CAREGIVER INFORMATION & ASSISTANCE
SPECIALIST POSITION AND A DATA PROCESSING CLERK POSITION FOR THE
HAWAII COUNTY OFFICE OF AGING
WHEREAS, the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) will soon be opening up on
the Big Island; and
WHEREAS, this one-stop resource center will provide information and assistance services
to older adults and caregivers; and
WHEREAS, during the past few years, two Hawaii County of Aging (HCOA) contractual
positions, a Caregiver Information & Assistance Specialist and a Data Processing Clerk, were
funded with federal monies; and
WHEREAS, the Caregiver Information & Assistance Specialist position is needed to
coordinate a system of care to assist older adults and their caregivers manximize their quality of
life and to manage their health and activities of daily living with appropriate and efficient support
and to also provide much needed options counseling at the ADRC; and
WHEREAS, the Data Processing Clerk position is needed to assist with the changes to the
Office of Aging's data base coupled with new reporting requirements and procedures; and
WHEREAS, the creation of a Caregiver Information & Assistance Specialist, SR-22, position
and a Data Processing Clerk, SR-10, position is essential to the success and effectiveness of the
ADRC; and
WHEREAS, there will be monies available in the Office of Aging Regular Salaries and
Wages account, 010.411.5411.011, to fund these positions; and
WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states that the Mayor
has the power to "Create positions...fortyhich appropriations have been made by the council...".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that a Caregiver Information & Assistance Specialist, SR-22, position and a Data
Processing Clerk, SR-10, position be created in the Office of Aging.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED there will be monies available in the Office of Aging Regular
Salaries and Wages account, 010.411.5411.011, to fund these positions.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the
Departments of Finance and Human Resources, and the Office of Aging.
