Re: Operating Budget
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance appropriating $8,000 for the maintenance of
the King Kalakaua Statue. The King Kalakaua Statue Committee, an ad hoc
citizen's group, will be presenting a check to the Culture & Arts Section of the
Department of Parks & Recreation for the upkeep and maintenance of the
statue at the Kalakaua Park in downtown Hilo.
The life-sized statue was created by artist Henry Bianchini in bronze and was
publicly dedicated on August 6, 1988. The artist has recommended that a
patina be reapplied to the statue every ten years, the first of which is this year.
This donation will be used for the recommended maintenance.
If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Department of
Parks & Recreation.
