Since a mediation process has not been successful. I wrote a note to
Mavor Yamashiro asking him to support the condemnation and purchase
of the SoBay property at Wai'aha Bay for a County beach park. The
Mayor responded October 26 writing "Your suggestion has merit. and if
the Council authorizes the condemnation and the expenditure of funds
for that purpose. the administration can pursue this idea. thank
you for your ideas which we will seriousIv consider.-
This is a request for you. as Finance C'omn:ittee members. to add money
for the purchase of Wai'aha Bay to the CIP list. Since this beach is one
of very few sandy beaches in Kona. it is of prime importance, to local
people and to tourists. It would make an excellent park. 2 1/2 times the
size of the beach in front of the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel
and is worthy of funding.
