REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND PARKS <br /> DATE: April I5, 1997 RE: COMM. NO. 235 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> TIME: 9:07 a.m. <br /> Chairperson and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 235 <br /> and attached Bill No. 70, reports as follows: <br /> The purpose of Bill No. 70 is to establish a passenger loading zone on Lehua Street fronting the <br /> Paradise Preschool in Hilo. Parking in front of the Preschool is presently prohibited from <br /> 7:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. daily, except for weekends and holidays. <br /> Bill No. 70 would amend Chapter 24, article 1Q division 5, section 24-281, schedule 29, <br /> (Parking prohibited during certain hours on certain streets; tow away zone), by deleting the <br /> <br /> following item: <br /> "(17) Lehua Street, Puna side, beginning at a point four hundred sixty-five feet makai <br /> of Wainaku Street and extending forty feet toward Puueo Street from 7:00 a.m. to <br /> 5:00 p.m. except Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays." <br /> <br /> Bill No. 70 would also amend Chapter 24, article 10, division 6, section 24-287, schedule 35, <br /> (Passenger loading zones), by adding the following item: <br /> Lehua Street, Puna side, beginning at a point four hundred sixty-five feet makai <br /> of Wainaku Street and extending forty feet toward Puueo Street from 7:00 a.m. to <br /> 5:30 p.m. except Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays." <br /> Communication No. 235 is a letter from Chief Engineer Donna Fay K. Kiyosaki, dated <br /> April 1, 1997 that transmits Bill No. 70 to the Council for its consideration. The <br /> Communication indicates that the Department of Public Works received a request to convert the <br /> area fronting the Paradise Preschool along Lehua Street to a passenger loading zone. <br /> Your Committee wnsidered Bill No. 70 at its April 7 5, 1997 meeting. At the meeting <br /> Your Committee also considered a letter from Laura Lea Ferreira, owner of the Paradise <br /> <br /> Preschool, that expresses support for Bill No. 70.
