Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 891, and
attached Resolution No. 286-98, reports as follows:
The purpose of Resolution No. 286-98 is to authorize the abandonment and quitclaim of remnants at
Puuanahulu Homesteads, North Kona, Hawaii, (Tax Map Key (3) 7-1-OS:Paper Roads) to the Big Island
Country Club Estates Limited Partnership.
Communication No. 891 is from Deputy Corporation Counsel Gerald Takase dated June 16, 1998,
requesting the Council's review and consideration of the resolution authorizing the abandonment and
quitclaim of remnants at Puuanahulu Homesteads, North Kona, to the Big Island Country Club Estates
Limited Partnership.
Mr. Takase states that a previous agreement had been reached with the State, which allowed the
development of the golf course. However, the State has since reconsidered its position and now believes
the County is the proper body to dispose of the property.
Mr. Takase further claritied for Your Committee that Big Island Country Club had submitted
payment in the sum of $34,500.00 to the State Department of Land and Natural Resources. If this
resolution is adopted, the funds will he transferred to the County.
Your Committee is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 286-98, and recommends
its adoption.
