Mr. Aaron Chung
Chairman, Finance Committee
Hawaii County Council
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, Hl 96720
Dear Chairman Chung:
RE. Testimony to the Finance Committee in support of Resolution No. 328-98,
Communication No. 990 to accept Federal Grant money for Marijuana
Enforcement Eradication.
On behalf of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Conservation and
Resources Enforcement, State of Hawaii we urge you to accept the financial assistance grant to
allow the Hawaii County Police to continue it's enforcement and eradication efforts.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources receives a similar federal grant to assist with
the illegal cultivation of marijuana and it's enforcement efforts on public lands statewide.
Should the Council refuse to accept these federa funds, the marijuana growing situation will
most likely move the County of Hawaii closer to the lawless days of the 1970's and 80's and
compromise the safety of residents and visitors alike.
Again, the Department of Land and Natural Resources urges you to accept these federal funds.
Thank you Mr. Chairman and Council Members.
Sincerely,
