Mr. Aaron S.Y. Chung, Chair
Committee on Finance, Hawaii County Council
Re: Letter of support for Resolution No. 328-98, Communication No. 990
Dear Aaron:
I am the President of the West Hawaii Bar Association, American Bar
Association Delegate-at-Large to the House of Delegates, and former officer of the
Young Lawyers Division of the Hawaii State Bar Association and the ABA.
The bar associations have always supported education to students on the
adverse effects of taking drugs. We have a project called Professionals for Drug Free
Kids (formerly called Drugs and Kids). Although rva do not receive federal funds, the
bar association is keenly aware of the importance of educating our Hawaii keikis on
how to say "no" to drugs.
I am writing this letter of support in my individual capacity to urge you to
support Resolution No. 32898 to accept federal grant money for marijuana
enforcement.
We need to be able to take a stand against marijuana use. I am convinced if
our children has the courage to say "no" to smoking a marijuana joint, they will be
able to say "no" to other illegal drugs like methanphetamine, which is a rising drug of
choice for our blue collar workers on the Big Island
Thank you for caring about our keikis on the Big Island.
Sincerely,
MARGARET K. MASUNAGA 0.
