Attn: 'vlr. Aaron Chung
Sir.
I am writing to you u1 reference to the Byrne Grant and resolution 32898. I
believe that the County should be allowed to enter into the agreement with the Federal
Government to use the funds for marijuana eradication.
I am the Senior Army Instructor for the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
(JROTC) Program for West Hawaii. This is my third year working in the high schools it
West Hawaii. 1 am appalled by the great amount of marijuana use by our young adults. I
see the results of this on a daily basis. In fact, today I had a conversation with Mr. Wil
Murakami. Principal of Kealakehe High School about the possible use of a drug dog in
his school. He told me that it was not possible because it was ruled as an illegal search
by our State Government. I have two teenagers of my own that attend that high school
and the marijuana use there and at Konawaena High School is outrageous. Something
has to be done.
I am the neighborhood watch coordinator for Kona Vistas. We have recently
leaned-up an ugly drug situation in the neighborhood by working with Mr. Joe
Reynolds, County Council Representative and local law enforcement officials. I am also
Scoutmaster of Boy Scorn Troop 31 and am a member of the District Committee. We
have to do something to protect our youth.
We live in paradise and this paradise is ridden by drug growers/manufactures,
users and pushers. This has to be stopped. As you know, marijuana is a gateway drug
into the drug culture and undesirable elements. This has lobe stopped. I fought in two
wars to protect this country and we are loosing it intemally, much as a result of illegal
dnt, use.
I urge you to do something to stop illegal drug use/growth/manufacture in our
community. Protect the youth and the citizens by making funds available to our law
enforcement agencies to stop this. Make Hawaii the paradise it once was.
