KOMA-KOIIALA
CHAMBER
OF COMMERCE
November lb, 1998
I
Mr Aaron S Y Chung, Chair
Committee on Finance, Hawaii County Council
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, HI 96720
Dear Co do Chung:
The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce is supporting Resolution No 328-98,
Communication No 990, which would accept federal grant money for marijuana
enforcement efforts, including the eradication program
The chamber is supportive of a creating a business climate in which legitimate business
operations can grow and create more investment for our residents. Unlawful behavior is
not conducive to investment that will attract other investment
We, strongly urge you to send a positive message to the residents of Hawaii County.
especially the children, that unlawful behavior is not accepted or encouraged and that
it will be dealt with severely
We might also mention that we have a very active visitor market attracted to the Big
Island of Hawaii now and absolutely nothing scares away visitors as fast as not being in a
safe environment. We strongly encourage you to continue federal funding of our
marijuana eradication efforts.
Sincerely,
Marni Herkes, President
Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce
