No. 1137/Res. 596-08 PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa 78-128 Ehukai Street Kailua-Kona, Hawaii TIME: 8:30 a.m. ` i Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred Communication No. 1137, regarding Resolution 596-08, reports as follows: I Resolution 596-08, transmitted by Council Chair, Pete Hoffmann via Communication 1137, dated April 3, 2008 proposing a Resolution Requesting the Department of Public Works to Immediately Begin Environmental Assessments for Those Recommendations Requiring an Environmental Assessment and Implement Before September 1, 2008, Other Short-Term Recommendations Not Requiring an Environmental Assessment Relating to Infrastructure , Improvements in Waimea, as Provided in the Final Report of the Parsons-Brinckerhoff Waimea Traffic Circulation Study. Council Chair Hoffmann stated the purpose of this resolution urges the current administration, before leaving office, to begin the Environmental Assessments relating to ` Infrastructure Improvements in Waimea. He, reiterated that funds have been i appropriated; sufficient studies done; numerous public meetings completed; and debates and discussion have already taken place. Furthermore, in this proposed legislation, it offers flexibility while addressing the community's concern on the Administration taking action before leaving office. Mr. Hoffman also added that this traffic issue affects the entire island and not only District 9, and seeks the support of his colleagues on this proposed resolution. Mr. Hoffman made a motion on proposed amendments to Resolution No. 596.-08 via Communication 1137.1, dated April 18, 2008. This motion was duly seconded and approved. There were several public testimonies presented in support of this proposed resolution. Department of Public Works Director Bruce McClure appeared before your committee. Mr. McClure commented that the Waimea Traffic Circulation Final Study and related information is available on the Hawaii County Website under the Projects Update link for j public reviewing.
